What can you tell us about the farm animals?
We have all the animals you’d expect to find on a farm as well as ponies and a small animal house with some more unusual animals.
We’re a registered rare breed’s farm park with the Rare Breed’s Survival Trust (RBST) with most of our animals being native British breeds of animal recognized as threatened or endangered. We aim to create a vibrant visitor’s attraction and educate volunteers and visitors. We teach young people and adults animal care and many of our animals have a therapeutic benefit, both at the farm and out and about in care homes and schools. We breed some of our animals so our volunteers and visitors can experience and work with young animals. Our sheep are regularly used as part of conservation grazing projects in Sheffield and the Peak District, so you may not always find them at the farm site.
Does the Farm just work in Heeley?
Whilst the majority of our work takes place on the main farm site, we also help to manage the vegetable garden at Meersbrook Walled Garden alongside our adult groups. The participants in our education and wellbeing programmes come from all around the city and often form their own communities within the farm.
How can we donate to the Farm?
You can donate online by going to https://www.justgiving.com/heeleycityfarm, alternatively there are donation boxes up around the Farm as well as in the Cafe and in the Offices.
