Volunteering & Training

Why volunteer?

Volunteering at Heeley City Farm is about more than just lending a hand—it’s a chance to connect with neighbors, learn practical skills, and be part of a supportive community that values nature, wellbeing, and inclusion. Whether you’re new to gardening, curious about animal care, or keen to build confidence by working with others, there’s a place here for you.

Heeley City Farm is open to volunteers from ages 8 upwards. The Farm, our food-growing sites and the café simply couldn’t run without the brilliant volunteers who come and work with us everyday so if you’d like to get involved please get in touch! The Farm is also happy to host corporate volunteer days.

Volunteer opportunities

Please note: We are a small team so there is a waiting list for volunteer positions, so once you've expressed interest in volunteering, please be patient. We will contact you when a position becomes available.

We also have very limited opportunities for volunteering with our animals as our groups are usually busy with them, we have a 1 year waiting list to work with the animals but in the school holidays we will have specialised volunteer days. You will be added onto a waiting list.

Ages 16-24 Volunteer group

Every Friday 10am-2pm (starting 22nd November)

This volunteer group is all about gaining hands-on work experience, making new friends, and growing your confidence. You’ll spend time outdoors, learn practical skills, and play a part in wildlife and farming projects that truly benefit your community. Whether you’re interested in food growing, running a garden centre, maintaining our site, helping out in the café, supporting young people, or exploring admin roles, there are plenty of ways to find your passion and build a path for the future. Come be part of a welcoming team where you can learn, laugh, and make a lasting difference!
