Safe Places

Sheffield Safe Places are a network of businesses and organisations dedicated to providing temporary safe refuge and assistance for adults who find themselves in difficult situations whilst out and about. The project supports adults in Sheffield to lead independent lives by creating a network of safe places in all areas of Sheffield. Adults who join the scheme and their families’ are reassured that help is available if it is needed.

The idea is simple. Stickers like this one are placed in the window of all the registered safe places. The staff or volunteers in safe places will assist anyone who goes to them for help.

The Safe Places scheme provides adults, in particular people with learning disabilities, mental health issues and dementia, with assistance and a safe place to be if they are feeling scared, upset, or bullied while out on their own.

The scheme provides reassurance to people and to their families and carers, that there is a means of support for them in the community. The support helps to minimise or remove the risks and a means to report crimes with or on behalf of the adult if necessary. They can also help by providing support to deal with health emergencies.
