There's a new online platform started called The Buzz!

The Buzz has been designed to be inclusive and accessible to a wide audience including people with a learning disability. It will become a collection of free videos with activities that people can do at home, such as art, dance, exercise, cooking and more. New videos will be added to our dedicated Facebook group every weekday, and weekly on our Small Good Stuff website.

Each video is produced by one of the many fantastic community enterprises who have been supported by Community Catalysts. All the enterprise leaders are experienced in running inclusive, accessible and fun sessions designed to keep everyone motivated, energised and entertained during lockdown.

The Buzz can be accessed in two ways:

1. On the Facebook group – search on Facebook for ‘The Buzz by Community Catalysts’ or click this link:

2. On our Small Good Stuff website -

31st March - We are very saddened to lose Philip Ridsdale who volunteered and worked with the youth and animal team at Heeley City Farm for over twenty years.

Phil, 'Flip' or 'Twitch', had many passions which he became an expert in, including bird watching, photography, wildlife identification, animal husbandry, farming, and in recent years even Pokémon Hunting!

He had been a regular visitor to the bird observatory at Spurn point and had carried out in-depth studies of the birds at the farm and in surrounding areas. He installed owl nest-boxes around the peak district and farm and also recently became qualified in bird ringing, which he was demonstrating and teaching to others.

Phil had a huge positive impact on many young volunteers over the years, teaching them many things from animal care to recognising birds and wildflowers, passing on his expertise wherever he was able.

Phil would do anything for anyone and was a source of knowledge for locals about nature. People would come down to the farm just to ask him - he always knew the answers!

He will be remembered for his dry sense of humour, huge knowledge on so many natural subjects, great strength, gentleness, passion, patience when teaching young people, and willingness to work at unsociable hours (midnight delivering lambs, working Christmas day and running 5am dawn chorus bird walks to name but a few)!

He will be sadly missed by hundreds of volunteers, staff he has worked alongside and members of the bird, wildlife and Pokémon groups he was so active in.

Our thoughts are with his family and friends at this hard time.

Friday 13th March - A massive thank you to everyone who has donated after our toilet rolls got stolen. Thanks to everyone who has donated, everyone who has dropped off toilet rolls and companies who have donated toilet rolls to us!

Tuesday 17th March - Hi all,

Due to the coronavirus outbreak and the government issuing advice to stay away from gatherings and to keep 'social distance' we have had made the tough decision to cancel or postpone events that are coming up at the Farm.

The Beer Festival will be postponed until a later date.

The Easter Egg Hunt has been cancelled.

Weekly/bi-weekly/monthly sessions (FTD Carers Group and other dementia sessions held at the Farm or at other venues, Wild and Woolly, Walks for wellbeing) are postponed until further notice.

All the courses we are running (bee keeping courses, organic food growing course) are postponed to a later date, anyone with tickets to these will receive an email from eventbrite explaining the situation.

The Dawn Chorus Bird Walk has been postoned.

This is unfortunate and we are sorry for any inconvenience caused, at the Farm we take health and safety very seriously and we are taking these actions with the health, safety and wellbeing of visitors and staff members in mind.

Thanks, the Heeley City Farm team

15th August 2016 - We would like to thank the seven staff members from School of Health and Related Research from University of Sheffield who had a productive morning on Thursday 11th August working on our new dementia garden area.

Staff created a willow fence, habitat piles, sanded benches and had an enjoyable time with suggestions of further volunteering.

The NEW garden area, All Our Space is a postcode Trust funded dementia garden project that aims to offer an outdoor space for anyone in dementia related communities. The garden area was designed by 3rd Medical students from University of Sheffield in Nov 15 as an investigation and research tool into dementia, access, environment and therapy.

HCF staff member Tony Hancox has been leading the construction with students and volunteers consulting with Lee and Andrew Pearse who are managing the project and concept. The team have been working gradually over the last few months on the paths, planters, seating and are now hopefully working with MA Architecture students from University of Sheffield on a suitable build/summer house/indoor activity space.

The space is to offer a practical project for carers of those with dementia as a respite from caring responsibilities.

The space is also a safe and accessible area on the farm that encourages care homes and care environments for people with varying dementias to be able to engage in a wide variety of activities and simply be outside with nature.📷
