The Farm Kitchen
the Cafe
The Farm Kitchen at Heeley City Farm is open every day serving drinks, snacks, breakfasts, lunches and afternoon teas from 10am – 4pm. Our café team welcome visitors to the farm as well as keeping the staff, volunteers and service users well fed and happy and  providing a friendly information hub and meeting point for the whole community.

The Farm Kitchen aims to provide healthy, tasty and affordable home-cooked food and we use as much of our own organic, home-grown vegetables as possible. The cafépromotes Fair Trade produce and uses free range eggs in all the delicious recipes and our vegetarian chilli, seasonal soups and more-ish cakes have gathered a faithful following.

I've been diggin my potatoes!Heeley City Farm’s Farm Kitchen supports adults with learning difficulties and disabilities, young people and work experience placements and many volunteers who help the team every day. Please be patient when you visit the café as we may not always provide the fastest service but our food will be home cooked and you will be supporting a social enterprise that aims to provide a welcoming place for people to work, enjoy good food, and meet family and friends. Our community café is breast feeding friendly and has disabled/ pushchair access. There is a high chair and toy box available for small children and baby changing facilities on site.

The Farm Kitchen team also provides outside catering for events or buffets and you can book a birthday party at the farm or order one of Alison’s wonderful cakes to take home. Please get in touch to discuss menu options or call in for a cup of tea and a chat. Thanks for your support and valued custom and please let us know if you would like to volunteer or get more involved.

Children’s Play Area
Right next to the café you will find an enclosed area for small children to let off steam. Even though it has been well loved and very well used for many years this play area still manages to keep little people entertained whilst the bigger people have a well earned sit down.

We are seeking funding to upgrade the play area but it is very expensive to do so and we struggle to find funds for this sort of investment. We will update you on any developments but please get in touch if you know of any grants available as we know it is something that visitors and local families would like us to improve.

Garden Centre
The region's only peat-free garden centre is here in Heeley! We have a wide range of top quality plants, often at much lower prices than many bigger garden centres. Find a friendly face for some advice on your gardening needs. Since our Garden Centre is also open to volunteers we grow expert horticulturalists as well as plants. We promote peat-free, organic and low water gardening so the Garden Centre sells a range of composts and manures to improve and condition your soil, naturally. Summer and Winter hanging baskets are made to order and we also have a unique ‘rent-a-Christmas tree’ scheme where you can hire a tree over the festive period and return it to us to grow on in the New Year!

The Energy House
Just down the road from the café, past the goat field, you will see an odd looking house with a black wall. This is the last remaining terraced house on our site and until recently was a pikelet factory (or bakery to those not familiar with pikelets.). Heeley City Farm bought the house in 2005 and in August 2006 it was opened to the public as South Yorkshire Energy Centre’s “Energy House” an eco-refurbished visitor centre that demonstrates that even the worst north- facing, solid walled, end terrace in Sheffield can become a beacon of energy efficiency.

The Energy House is now open to visitors, schools and groups from Wednesday - Saturday from 11am – 3pm and by appointment at all other times. The House features interactive displays, renewable technologies, insulation options and staff are on hand to offer advice and support on everything from tackling large fuel bills to installing micro-renewables.

Last year over 4000 people visited the Energy House and we arranged sessions for many schools and visiting groups. We are the only not-for-profit energy efficiency demonstration centre in South Yorkshire, we offer informed, impartial advice and provide activities and events to get families and local households enthused in saving energy and reducing their carbon footprint.

Gardens
Relax as you wander around our aromatic herb gardens (mind the ducks!) humid polytunnels, demonstration gardens and vegetable plots.
