Our Training courses are designed to be as friendly as possible to people
of all backgrounds.
Academy for Community Leadership Organic Growing Courses
We have brand new courses on growing your own food. Learn how to on our
friendly, FREE course, Local Food Growing Champions. Beginners are welcome and
all materials are provided in these ten practical sessions which will provide
you with the skills and knowledge to start growing your own fruit, vegetables,
salad crops and herbs.

UK Soil Association 'Be a HarveStar'!
The farm has teamed up with the Soil Association for two great Saturdays in April and May! Spend a day at Wortley Hall and try your hand at the forgotten skills of organic vegetable growing. The Soil Association says, "Learn to reap what you sow by growing your own fruit and vegetables…If you've ever had a secret yen to live the good life, now is your chance to get started!". Sustainable Building Courses @ SYEC!
The Energy Centre is running the ever-popular Straw Bale and Timber Frame Building courses in April and May. Taught by Sheffield's leading sustainable building expert you must book early to avoid disappointment!
WEA Courses
Heeley City Farm is also part of the Heeley Health and Environment Branch of the
Worker's Educational Association which runs courses in subjects as varied
as cookery, politics, herbalism, Bee-keeping and climate change. For a list of current courses on offer around the area, Click here

School
Visits
Heeley City Farm is the perfect place to learn about the environment, sustainability,
renewable energy, habitats, caring for animals and healthy eating. We link into
the following government initiatives:
- Eco-Schools
- Sustainable Schools
- Every Child Matters
- Learning Outside the Classroom Manifesto
We offer taught sessions as well as resources for self-led visits for groups
of all ages and abilities. The farm is an outdoor resource, however we do
have a small indoor area / lunch space.
Early Years
Story sessions, with farm trails and craft activities for nursery groups /
Key Stages 1 & 2
A variety of school sessions based on the National Curriculum, covering subjects
such as Science, Geography, Citizenship, Literacy, Art and D&T. Some sessions
include a visit to the Energy Centre, where pupils can test out interactive
energy-saving devices for themselves!
Key Stages 3, 4 and beyond
The farm can be used as an exciting outdoor research centre for students,
with support available from the Education Officer.
